I am thrilled to introduce you to the visionary of San, the founder of KUSI KIM. With a lifelong passion for jewellery, San has dedicated over 17 years in Melbourne to perfecting the art of jewellery. Join me as I delve into her inspiring story, approach to design, and the heart behind every piece created at KUSI KIM.

Jen: Hello! Could you please share a bit about yourself?

SanHello, there! This is San, your personal jeweller and founder of KUSI KIM. Originally from Korea, I’ve been working in Melbourne’s jewellery industry for 17 years. I manage all of KUSI KIM’s design and production with passion and love.

Jen: How did you begin your journey of jewellery design?

SanI grew up, surrounded by jewellery, as my family ran a jewellery business for more than 30 years in Korea. I would run to my parents’ jewellery shop after school and play with gems like rubies, sapphires, emeralds, even though I had no idea of their true value. The memories of helping my parents to close and lock the jewelleries in the safe as well as the scent and atmosphere of the shop are still very vivid in my mind to this day. Looking back, I am incredibly grateful for such beautiful memories as they have undoubtedly inspired me to start my journey in the jewellery industry. I am very proud to be able to continue our family legacy as the founder of KUSI KIM.

I was so little back then, but now I'm around the same age she was when she ran the shop. Mum and I still have connections.

Jen: What kind of jewellery design do you do in Melbourne?

SanMy work in Melbourne involves both designing and overseeing the production of jewellery from start to finish. My passion for jewellery production first began when I was studying a ‘Gold and Silver smithing’ course at RMIT university where I learned the entire process of jewellery production from melting raw materials to crafting a final piece. Although the production process can be very lengthy and meticulous, the fact that it ultimately results in the creation of beautiful jewelleries truly inspired me to start my production journey. At KUSI KIM, I oversee entire production and design process to ensure that they align with my customers’ preferences and needs. I believe that this is definitely one of our brand’s great strengths.

Jen: What kind of products do you primarily work with?

SanI design and produce a wide range of jewellery products such as engagement rings, wedding bands, earrings, necklaces and bracelets. I also take great pleasure in creating bespoke jewelleries as it gives me the opportunity to meet so many beautiful clients that I cherish individually to this day - from loved ones who promise forever to each other, to those who are willing to continue the family legacy through family heirlooms by transforming diamonds and gold coins inherited from grandparents into jewelleries.

Jen: Do you have any final messages that you want to give to our audience?

SanI am forever grateful for all the love and support that our brand received for the past 20 years and I am continually striving to enhance our designs and skills. There are so many more jewellery collections that are awaiting debut and so many loved ones whom I would love to work with. It’s a great honour to be able to design and produce fine jewelleries with precious stories of love, family legacy and heritage that my clients can carry anywhere, anytime. It’s what truly gives me joy, happiness and the motivation wake up every morning.

Jen: Thank you so much for sharing your story with us.
